My computer started messing up Hangeul files after I tried editing videos
I don’t even know where to start with this. It’s been a weird few weeks. I was trying to put together a short video for my sister’s birthday, something simple just to share online. I’ve never really done video editing before, just used the basic Windows video editor that comes with it, you know, the one that’s kind of hidden away? It’s not like I was trying to make a movie or anything fancy, just splice a few clips together and add some music.
It wasn’t a super smooth process. The program is pretty basic, and I kept running into little issues. Sometimes the audio wouldn’t sync up right, or the export would just fail halfway through. I spent way longer on it than I thought I would, probably a good chunk of an afternoon just fiddling with settings and re-importing clips. I finally got something that looked decent enough, but it was kind of frustrating. I guess I just figured it would be more straightforward.
Then, a couple of days later, things started getting weird with my computer itself. It wasn’t just the video editing software acting up. I noticed it when I was trying to type something in a Hangeul document, like a memo or a quick note. The characters weren’t appearing correctly. Instead of forming proper syllables, it was showing these weird individual consonant and vowel components, like the ㅈ and the ㅓ and the ㅇ all separate, not glued together into 정. It was like the program couldn’t process the input correctly.
At first, I thought maybe I just hit some weird keyboard shortcut or something. I tried closing the program and opening it again. No luck. Then I tried restarting the whole computer. Still the same problem. It was only happening with Hangeul files, which was so strange. Everything else, like typing in English or even in some other Korean input methods, seemed fine. It was specifically the standard Hangeul document editing that was broken. I couldn’t even find the right settings in the control panel to troubleshoot because my Korean input was messed up in there too. It was incredibly annoying because I rely on Hangeul for a lot of my daily stuff, not just official documents but messages and notes.
I don’t know if it’s related to the video editing attempt at all. It could be a complete coincidence. Maybe some update went wrong, or I accidentally downloaded something shady, though I don’t remember clicking on anything suspicious. It just feels like my computer is suddenly fighting me, and I have no idea how to fix it. I looked up some forums online, and a few people mentioned similar issues with Hangeul input after software installations or updates, but nothing about video editing specifically. Some suggested reinstalling the Hangeul input method, but honestly, the idea of messing with system settings when I can barely type a proper syllable fills me with dread. I’m kind of just living with it for now, hoping it resolves itself or I stumble upon a fix before I lose my mind. It’s a weird, specific kind of frustration.
